So once again, they play an ok game and come out without a point and goal. They are becoming the gang that can’t shoot straight. Obviously scoring challenged does not make for a productive season. Its about winning hockey games and scoring goals. Lets see, last year the Bruins had 9 players with 20 or more goals. Captain Z had 19. Yes, Milan Lucic, Marc Savard and Byron Bitz are out with injuries, but what the heck is up with the other guys. David Krejci, Blake Wheeler, Marco Sturm, Patrice Bergeron and Michael Ryder? Can anyone put the puck in the net? Not the post or the opposing teams crest, but in the net! Two consecutive shutouts and in the last four games, they’ve scored three goals and had three losses. Their power play or lack thereof is just abysmal. The Bruins have one goal in their last 20 power play opportunities. Last night they had 2 shots on five power play chances. Yes they are currently missing their quarterback on the power play in Savard, but jeesh, can’t someone step up and have some creativity to move the puck around in the zone instead of just settling for a silly blocked shot from the point because the defense has yet to show me they can get the puck through to the net. As good as Dennis Wideman was late in last years campaign, he seems to have reverted to his year before horribleness. Chara has not had a Norris trophy start here in 2009-2010 and most everyone else just seems to be out for a public hockey skate. Now that may be a bit too harsh, but this win one lose two thing is just about as ridiculous as Phil Kessel making his debut for the Toronto Maple Leafs and putting 10 quality shots on Antero Nittymakki and not scoring a goal.
After 14 games last year, the Bruins had 19 points. Today have 13 and the road gets tougher as Montreal visits the Garden on Thursday and divisional games are always tough…and the Buffalo Sabres are here on Saturday. So they had better figure out a way to start scoring some goals with regularity before they find themselves so far behind in the Eastern Conference that they won’t be able to dig out!
